Born in Albequerque New Mexico at Sandia Air Base Hospital. My father was an servicemember in the US ARMY Family moved to Albemarle the summer of my 9th grade year. Graduated from Albemarle High School, 1977 Attended Stanly Community College Enlisted in US Navy 1979 Attended Class A and C Fire Control Schools Deployed on the Nuclear Fast Attack Submarine USS Baltimore, SSN 704. Navy member of the Tomahawk Missile Development team. Transferred to Naval Guided Missile School. Instructor and Curriculum Designer Exited Navy and worked as a Field Service Tech at Gray and Creech Office Systems for 4 years. Attended and Completed Vocational Teacher Preparation program at NC A & T University Taught Electronics Technology, Applied Physics, Robotics, and CISCO networing at South Stanly 1992-2020. Wrestling Coach and Assistant Football Coach Member of the Governor's Teacher Adviory Council and the Fluke Industrial Technicians Council Taught Electronics Technology and Computer Upgrade and Repair at Stanly College as adjunct 4 years Served 5 years on the Stanly County Board of Education Married to Margaret Sorenson of Norwood and have two adjult daughters, Dr. Jennifer Nichols, and Angela Day. I have three Grandchildren that are the absolute joy of my life.

Born and raised in Stanly County, started my law enforcement career with the Stanly County Sheriff's Department in 1992 until 1999 then left and went to work for the Concord Police Department until 2004. When I left there, I joined the DMV License and Theft Bureau and completed my 30-year law enforcement career in 2022 as a Lieutenant.
